Long before Daniel interpreted dreams, survived the lions' den, or received astonishing visions concerning the future of the world, he was a young man whose life changed forever in a single moment. His story did not begin in the magnificent city of Babylon, but in Jerusalem.
STEP 1
Called by God to Babylon
God Allows History, But God Directs Destiny (Daniel 1:1–2)
Long before Daniel interpreted dreams or faced the lions' den, his journey began with an unimaginable trial. In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
From a human perspective, Babylon had triumphed. Yet Scripture reveals a profound truth: “And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand...” (Daniel 1:2, NKJV). Nebuchadnezzar was not the ultimate victor; the Lord Himself permitted these events according to His sovereign purposes.
God placed Daniel in the court of kings not to compromise his faith, but to demonstrate His power, reveal His wisdom, and execute His eternal plan. As Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself (Daniel 1:8), he set the stage for a lifetime of unwavering devotion.
