Many Came Confessing and Telling Their Deeds

Acts describes believers coming forward and openly acknowledging practices connected with their former lives.

The transformation that had begun inwardly now became visible outwardly.

The books were destroyed publicly.

In a city known for religious activity, spiritual practices, commerce, and devotion to many powers, this would have been a striking declaration.

Their former source of spiritual confidence was being abandoned in full view of the community.

WHAT THE FIRE REPRESENTED

The fire did not purchase forgiveness.

It demonstrated that repentance had already changed their allegiance.

THE COST OF REPENTANCE

Fifty Thousand Pieces of Silver

The Value Was Counted

Acts specifically records that the value of the books was calculated.

The stated total was fifty thousand pieces of silver.

The Loss Was Accepted

Whatever modern monetary equivalent might be proposed, Luke's point is unmistakable: the sacrifice was substantial.

Their former practices were not merely inconvenient habits. They were connected to things of real financial value.

And its effect could now be seen in the choices people were making.

What Does Genuine Repentance Look Like?

The Ephesian believers did not merely say that their beliefs had changed.

Their choices changed with them.

Is there anything God is asking you to leave behind because it belongs to an old allegiance rather than your life in Christ?

What would obedience look like if your repentance became visible in your priorities, possessions, habits, or decisions?

The Gospel has changed individuals.

Former practices are being abandoned.

Valuable objects connected to the old life have been destroyed.

But when enough lives change, the effects do not remain private.
