THIRD MISSIONARY JOURNEY
Paul's ministry in Ephesus enters an extraordinary season.
The Gospel is being taught daily, the Word is spreading throughout Asia, extraordinary miracles are occurring, spiritual counterfeits are exposed, and people begin turning openly from practices associated with magic.

Acts 19:8–20
Biblical Significance: Ephesus becomes one of the most significant ministry centers of Paul's missionary work. Through sustained teaching, the Word spreads throughout the region. God performs extraordinary miracles, false spiritual authority is exposed, people renounce former practices, and the Gospel demonstrates transforming power within the city.
EXTENSIVE TEACHING
After opposition develops in the synagogue, Paul separates the disciples and continues teaching daily in the school of Tyrannus.
This ministry continues for approximately two years.
“And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.”
Acts 19:10, NKJV
EXTRAORDINARY MIRACLES
Acts records extraordinary miracles occurring through Paul's ministry.
Even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were carried to the sick.
Diseases departed and evil spirits came out.
The biblical emphasis remains on what God was doing, not on the objects themselves.
FALSE AUTHORITY EXPOSED
Some Jewish exorcists attempt to use the name of Jesus as though spiritual authority were merely a formula.
The confrontation reveals a profound difference between knowing about Jesus and truly belonging to Him.
“Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
Acts 19:15, NKJV
The name of Jesus is not a magical formula.
Spiritual authority cannot be imitated simply by repeating words.
THE CITY RESPONDS
News of the event spreads.
Fear comes upon many who hear what happened, and the name of the Lord Jesus is magnified.
The Gospel is no longer merely another religious idea competing in the marketplace of Ephesus.
Lives are being confronted and transformed.
REAL REPENTANCE
Many who had believed came publicly confessing and telling their deeds.
Others who had practiced magic brought their books together.
This was not simply private agreement with Paul's teaching.
Their response began affecting possessions, practices, habits, and former loyalties.
Biblical repentance changes direction.
The Ephesian believers were willing to separate themselves from things connected to their former way of life.
ANCIENT TRAVEL PERSPECTIVE
Major overland travel between exhibits: approximately 0 km / 0 miles
MJ3-003 and MJ3-004 both take place during Paul's extended ministry in Ephesus.
For this exhibit, the remarkable feature is not distance traveled.
It is the length of time Paul remained.
After traveling more than 1,000 miles to reach Ephesus, Paul now invests an extended period teaching and strengthening the work there.
Paul reasons regularly with disciples and listeners.
Acts specifically records two years connected with the School of Tyrannus ministry.
The Gospel spreads far beyond Ephesus into the wider province of Asia.
Instead of moving quickly onward, Paul invests deeply in one strategic location.
Paul's dedication was demonstrated not only by how far he traveled.
It was also demonstrated by his willingness to remain, teach daily, endure opposition, and invest years in building believers.

The Word prevailed over resistance.
It prevailed over false spiritual authority.
It prevailed over former practices.
And it began transforming the spiritual atmosphere of Ephesus.
LIFE APPLICATION
The people of Ephesus did more than listen.
The Gospel began changing what they practiced, what they valued, and what they were willing to leave behind.
