Jesus watched people placing gifts into the temple treasury. Many wealthy people gave large amounts, but one poor widow gave two very small coins. Jesus taught that her gift was greater because she gave out of her poverty and surrendered all that she had.
Jesus looked beyond the visible amount to the sacrifice, trust and heart behind the gift.

A poor widow came and placed in two mites, together making a quadrans. See Mark 12:42.
Jesus deliberately called His disciples and told them the widow had given more than all the others. See Mark 12:43.
The others gave from their abundance; she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had. See Mark 12:44.
People approached the treasury and placed in their offerings.
Many wealthy worshippers contributed large amounts.
One poor widow came quietly carrying only two small coins.
The widow placed both coins into the treasury.
Jesus saw what she had done and called His disciples to Him.
Jesus declared that her gift represented extraordinary sacrifice and trust.
Others could see only two tiny coins. Jesus saw the heart, trust and sacrifice behind them. The story reminds us that worship is not measured by outward size, public recognition or comparison with others.
